Spring fasting 2018, day 3 - Just Go Pink!

Spring fasting 2018, day 3

Broth Without Fennel, Carrot & Sweet Potatoes

This morning, we both felt like crap. Christophe had slept very bad and was out of bed quite early. He had no energy, so just slumped on the sofa. That’s were I found him when I got up, seemingly asleep. I joined him on the sofa, and we shared an apple in slow motion. After almost an hour, we had enough energy to get up and start our morning routine.

We did a very careful and adapted yoga session. Nothing strenuous. Just two sun greetings followed by a series of stretching exercises. And then a 20 minute meditation in silence. We both felt better afterwards. Christophe even felt refreshed. I felt alright but lacked energy.

It’s interesting to see how we respond differently to this fast. After the first day, I have felt not tired but very slow and lazy. A lack of energy. If I had nothing to do, I could happily spend my days on the sofa, reading. Christophe somehow has (much) more energy than I. Well, actually, he always does…

Fire and water

Approximately a year ago, Christophe and I had been together for just 3 weeks when I visited my Mum. She’s into astrology, so I came prepared with Christophe’s birth date, hour and place. She drew his horoscope and we studied it together. That is, I looked at the drawing while she explained stuff.

At some point, I noticed that in the left upper hand corner, there were the 4 elements fire, earth, air and water. And I noticed that Christophe has 61% fire. I pointed that out to my Mum and she said that that is rather exceptional. And that it explains why Christophe doesn’t need more than 6 hours of sleep per night.

Of course we then had a look at my horoscope, and lo and behold, I have 77% water! And only 2% fire. Which explains why I need between 8 and 9 hours of sleep per night, and am easily cold. You may find all this a bag of rubbish, which is fine by me, but I find it rather interesting.

A change of program

Back to today. We decided that, if we want to be able to continue any work whilst on this fast, we had better make some changes. Otherwise, we would just become couch potatoes, doing nothing. So Christophe went into the kitchen and prepared a fresh vegetable broth from carrot, sweet potato and fennel.

For lunch, we each “ate” 2 plates of the hot broth and it was delicious! It was just water, but the fact that it tasted of something else was absolute bliss after two days of plain warm water. And we ate it with a spoon.

We shared another apple for dessert and in the afternoon, we each had 3 cashew nuts and one medjool date. Fasting makes you really appreciate what you eat, so we took our time and savoured every little bite.

We made another excursion to the post office and had a very short walk after that. We were both drained of energy and agreed that tonight, dinner was in order. And so we ate half the vegetables that had given taste to the broth from lunch, with some cooked rice which we had saved from the rice water from the last two days. And ended the feast once again with half an apple each. Jummie!!!

Tonight, we’re going to go to bed very early and watch the movie Slumdog millionaire. Hopefully, we’ll both have a good night after that and feel better tomorrow than this morning.
